Psychology: Find out more

How to find out more?

You can always arrange an individual appointment for yourself, and/or parents to talk through your choices. The Head of Sixth Form (Mr Jackson) or the Head of Psychology (Mrs Montgomery) are very happy to help you make the right choice

I can suggest some books to help you find out what Psychology at A Level is all about. If you come to the department (Stable 8) I may be able to lend you some GCSE level material that would introduce topics at a very readable level. If you are very keen, borrow some of our books from the school library, or ask me for some summer holiday reading.

Psychology appears everywhere once you start looking. Use television, radio, newspapers and computer to search out interesting articles on any of the topics we have mentioned. Active listening and reading, with a dictionary if necessary, will get you a long way!

If you are sure you want to join this course next year you can go ahead and buy the set textbook after your GCSE examinations. If you read through interesting chapters and found out more about the subject before starting the course you would be in a very good position to do well. (Textbook details are below or you can obtain a new copy at cost from Mrs Montgomery.)

Introducing Psychology, Approaches, Topics and Methods, edited by Donald Pennington, published by Hodder and Stoughton, 2002, ISBN 0-340-84778-6. (It costs around £16.)
