On Monday 25 November All Saints RC School York held their third annual Awards Ceremony at the Central Hall, York University.
The guest speaker for the evening was John Battle. John, a devout Catholic who became a Member of Parliament for Leeds West in 1987 and in 1999 was appointed to a position in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He was recognised by Pope Benedict XVI on 27 June 2009 when he was invested as a Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great for his lifelong commitment and loyalty to the local Church and for his political contribution as a Member of Parliament. John gave an inspirational speech to the students on humanity and striving to fulfil your personal potential.
The evening was a celebration of pupils’ success and achievement for the academic year 2012-13. There were also Departmental Awards for those students who had made outstanding contributions within a particular subject area. The culmination of the awards ceremony is the presentation of four additional awards. These prestigious accolades recognise the exceptional contribution of a student in a particular area of school life and were presented by John Battle.
The Steven Brian Award – voted for by the school council for the student who has dedicated a lot of time to the school community – Harriet Powell Year 11.
The Governors’ Award – awarded for exceptional service to the life of the school – Jared Hindle Year 13
The Bar Convent Award – awarded for commitment to faith – George Wallace Year 11
The All Saints Award – awarded to the student who has offered something extraordinary to the life of the school – Beth Taylor Year 12.
This year the school also took the opportunity to thank and commemorate Sr Mary Walmsley with a special award for her dedicated service to Catholic education over the last 60 years.
The presentation of awards and speeches was complimented by four beautiful pieces of music which ’s highly talented musicians and vocalists.
It was a lovely evening and a fantastic chance to celebrate the successes of the students on both an academic and personal level.
