GIVING THE HOMELESS A VOICE – from Coney Street to Hollywood Boulevard
One of our most keen AS Photographers has embarked upon a courageous project based on the homeless of York.
Josh Hurrell has been dedicating time to a number of homeless people he has seen regularly around York; talking to them about their situation, their story and aspirations. Stuart and Lee have both been photographed with permission (as has Stuart’s dog!) and Josh continues to build up a portfolio of intimate portraits.
Josh’s focus on the homeless recently caught the attention of Jimmy K @bumsafari on Instagram – he also started following the All Saints Art Department page. Jimmy is based in Hollywood, LA, and works closely with the ‘bums’ there to find out their stories. With twenty-four thousand followers, Jimmy hopes crowdfunding will enable him to publish his photographs in a book.
Josh is more determined than ever to produce even more portraits and share more stories of the homeless in York. Enjoy the images and be sure to follow us on Instagram @allsaintsyork
